Understand your real-world range
Displayed range is an estimate. Speed, wind, temperature, hills, tyres and load all affect energy use. Use recent consumption on a similar road as your planning baseline.
1Start with a representative drive
Record distance, conditions and indicated energy consumption for a normal journey. A short urban trip may not represent a loaded motorway run.
2Check tyres and load
Use the tyre placard and handbook for the correct pressures and load limits. Check cold tyre pressures and remove unnecessary load. Do not increase pressure beyond the manufacturer’s guidance to chase range.
3Build a conservative estimate
For a battery-electric vehicle, estimated distance in kilometres is usable energy in kWh divided by consumption in kWh/100 km, multiplied by 100. Leave a reserve; do not count the whole battery as available trip energy.
4Treat a hybrid separately
For a plug-in hybrid, plan electric and petrol availability separately. Combined advertised range is not a guarantee for your route. Check fuel and battery reserves along the journey.
5Reassess on the road
Compare arrival battery estimates with actual results after the first leg. If conditions worsen, slow appropriately, choose an earlier stop and maintain a practical reserve.
Check the official instructions
This checklist was prepared with reference to BYD Australia’s official manual directory and service information. Model-specific limits and operating sequences are intentionally left to your handbook. These general checklists do not verify feature availability for every vehicle.
